Mushaira
Urdu Writers Society

Attending a “Mushaira” was conceived as sitting in a hall full of literary personae and listen to prose and verse in a very mannered routine. Not any more - Urdu Writers Society of Los Angeles has molded all the traditions. All attendees will receive a book or CD of their choice free of charge not only attracted more audience also promoted literature at large.
It all beautifully arranged on June 17, 2005 at Village Restaurant, Anaheim, CA attended by a full capacity of 150 poetry lovers. The comely evening was presided by Mr. Jazeb Qureshi from Pakistan, featuring conspicuous Dr. Safi Hasan (England) as a chief guest. Leading poets from US who witness the night included Mr. Zafar Jafri (Oklahoma), Mr. Masroor Javed (NY), Mrs. Razia Faseeh Ahmed (Chicago), and Mr. Younus Ijaz (Dallas).
Mr.Irfan Murtaza and Ms. Jia Khan astonishingly emceed the literary landmark emanated by Mr. Mohammad Kalam. Audience applauded the poetry and verses throughout the night and congratulates Urdu Writers Society for their efforts in promoting literature and poetry by dispensing books and CDs.
Local poets who contributed to the night with their poetry and verses included Mr. Arif Imam, Mr. Khalid Khaja, Mr. Paul Bajwa, Mr. Tabish Khanzada, Mr. Wasiul Hasan Naqqash, Mr. Asad Ullah Chakkar, Mr. Zafar Abbas, Mr. Majeed Akhtar, Ms. Asifa Nishat, Mr. Arif Imam, Mr. Irfan Murtaza, and Mr. Zafar Jaffery.
Mr. Arif Imam beautifully acquainted the audience with poetry grindstones of Mr. Younus Ijaz (Dallas) followed by a fascinating poetry from Mr. Ijaz. Writer of 17 ravishing books, Mrs. Razia Faseeh Ahmed, rendered a beautiful poesy before the audience after a profound introduction from Mr. Khalid Khaja for her unconditional passion for literature. The congregation also learned about the achievement and devotions Mr. Jazeb Qureshi has contributed for the last 50 years to serve literature. Mr. Masroor Javed enlightened his out-and-out dedication for his work and read a verse before the audience.
Milieu of the literature seems to be changed by Urdu Writers Society of Los Angeles and that was palpable throughout the night when Society handed over award to Mr. Younus Ijaz and Mrs. Faseh Ahmed help foster Urdu.
The event was unique of its nature setting new trends in promoting Urdu at large in Los Angeles taking literature to latitude it never seen before. Devotees of Urdu poetry, verse and compositions also enjoy a gourmet dinner arranged by the Society.
