His Excellency, Mr. Jehangir Karamat - acting Ambassador to US, has visited Los Angeles vibrant Pakistani-American community and the Consulate March 10th, 2005. Mr. Jehangir Karamat has been appointed as Ambassador to US November the last 2004. This is his first visit as an Ambassador to Los Angeles and received a warm welcome from the community at large.

During his visit to Los Angeles, I had the privilege and honor to meet him personally along with distinguished personalities of local media and ask questions in regards to past, present and future bilateral Pak-US relations. The meeting was arranged on March 11, 2005 at Los Angeles Consulate 10:30 AM sharp in the beautiful office of Consul Mr. Noor Muhammad Jadmani. Mr. Ahmad Farooq, Vice Consul, and Commercial Counselor Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar also greeted his Excellency.

The proposed intention of the meeting was to interact with local media, highlighting importance of media in the community, discussing measures for improvement, considering difficulties and to resolve them, involvement of the media with the community and feedback from local Pakistani Americans.

His Excellency, Mr. Jehangir Karamat did mention and seemed pleased with the warm welcome received from local Pakistanis and paid high gratitude as ambassador to such a community. “Los Angeles Pakistani-Americans have played a vital role keeping the community together to its very social fabrics responding to the diverse challenges in the field of business, health care, education, social sector, and IT sector at the same time”, he complimented over a sip of coffee.

Answers to questions, he said Pak-US relation has been focused, vibrant and bilateral as never been before. Micro and Macro indicators of Pakistan have been stronger than ever showing steady economic growth. Relations with neighboring countries like India and Afghanistan are in positive direction. Kashmir issue is still there but dialogues made the two countries closer than ever. Investments are pouring in from countries like Malaysia and Singapore hence build confidence in foreign investment proving economic growth.

The KSE 100 index has already crossed 10000 points to make it one of the best performing stock markets in the world. Education, Health Sector and Real Estate Sectors showing positive sign contributing private sector growth. “We have got US confidence at Nuclear Proliferation issue and have confirmed the security of the conduit”, he mentioned.

Mr. Jehangir Karamat also addressed regarding visa problems mentioned in the discussion and promised will be resolved promptly. He also pointed out intern at DC Office and how they are helping make the system better for Pakistani Americans.

The one hour meeting was just a birds eye view of Pak-US relations, economical standing of Pakistan within the region, economical indicators of the country, border issues with Afghanistan and India, and domestic issues but long enough to judge the directions our country is heading under the leadership of His Excellency President Mr. Pervez Musharaf.
