Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain visits LA

Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, minister of state for religious affairs and an active member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, has always had a close relationship with the religious community and the religious minded all over the world. The MQM’s Los Angeles Unit arranged a question and answer session with the learned Geo’s Aalim Online host – the most popular religious episode watched by Europe and USA TV audiences – on December 26, 2005 at the Momin Lodge Community Hall, Torrance.

Ms. Atia Niazi, a prominent literary figure of Los Angeles, emceed the event with Mr. Abu Bakar Vakil sitting as the ‘judge’ and calling upon Dr.Aamir Liaquat Hussain and Mr. Khalid Maqbool Siddique, Member, Organizing Committee, MQM, USA to answer the audience’s questions. Mr. Kamal Zafar, Member Organizing Committee MQM, USA, and Mr.Samin Faruqui, in charge Orange County Zone, were also present on the occasion and expressed gratitude to the audience for their presence.

Mr. Mateen Yousuf and Mr. Ayaz Khan, a prominent actor and entertainer, were also present.

As the event was called “a question and answer session”, Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain responded to questions as to what has been done by the MQM for the restoration and rehabilitation of earthquake victims, MQM’s role in the assemblies, its stance on the KalaBagh Dam, and dr Aamir’s personal contribution as minister of state for religious affairs in Pakistan.

Dr Aamir informed the audience that despite many obstacles the MQM has contributed the most to the relief effort compared to other parties in government and will continue to do so with full devotion in the affected areas till the reconstruction and rehabilitation work comes to a successful end. “MQM has been very active in the Assembly and completely supports President Pervez Musharaf’s policies and think tank and that world has realized the importance of Pakistan geographically, politically, and economically in South East Asia,” Dr. Hussain remarked in response to a question.

The consensus of all parties on the construction of the Kalabagh Dam is what we deem necessary for initiating the project. We must have unanimity within provinces on the issue, he remarked in one of his answers. “New provisions have been implemented for the Hudood Ordinance, honor killings, Haj facilities, and religious learning in schools for a better understanding of the basic Islamic concept,” the Aalim Online host stated.
Besides listening to naat by Dr. Aamir Hussain the audience was also entertained to hilarious jokes by Ayaz Khan. The evening turned out to be a memorable one.
