The things that will come to your mind if you hear the name Mehdi Hasan are, melodious notes, beautiful gazals and his sons who surely have capabilities to carry and perform the way the legend did. This is no one but Mr. Pervaiz Mehdi, one of the son of Mehdi Hasan, whose performance was hard to overcome especially with paralyzing gazals and astonishing Tabla for the audiences in Anaheim on December 11, 2004 at The Village Restaurant.

The efforts for the melodious night were from no one but social figures Mr. Mohammad Kalam and Ms. Rehana Qamar sponsored by Travel N Tours Unlimited, a well-known travel agency of the town operated and run by media icon Mr. Waqar Ali Khan.

The night started with gourmet dinner at the Village Restaurant around 8 PM followed by an opening statement from Mr. Ashraf Ali and Mr. Waqar Ali Khan commenting about the accomplishments in gazal singing and how he carried out Mehdi Hasan’s legacy throughout the time and kept him alive for his audience.

By the time Mr. Pervaiz Mehdi started running his fingers over the harmonium, audiences already settled down starry-eyed with cup full of tea to go with the notes. The night was in full swing within no time and one could hear nothing but request of gazals from the crowd. It was a night you get to hear new collections from Pervaiz Mehdi, and oldies of the legend Mehdi Hasan that kept the hall warm and alive throughout the night.

Mr. Pervaiz Mehdi proved himself a legend’s son whose gazals and way of singing will be alive as long gazal lovers are around. We do thank and hope that the organizers will allow us again to hear from the best in months counted on fingers.
